BEE Buzz

"For me, the honeybee symbolizes and embodies a congruency of form and function, vision and action, spirit and matter, all being of the same essence. I offer these photographs in celebration, respect, and gratitude for all they do and are." Rose-Lynn Fisher

Our current exhibition BEE finally opened this past Thursday. An electrical outage at the Front street Galleries building attempted to spoil our evening. Luckily enough we were able to stay open and our dear visitors enjoyed an inspirational moment admiring the work of Rose-Lynn Fisher as well as engaging in conversation with her. Our yellow walls definitely added up a bright tone to the environment and everyone was able to appreciate the detail exposed in each of the photographs.

Rose-Lynn photographs of bees using a scanning electron microscope present this singular insect in incredible detail revealing their amazing secret patterns and structures. Her book BEE is also available for purchase at the gallery.

We will host an afternoon with the artist on June 19th, 1pm to 5pm.
BEE will be on view until June 26th, 2010

Hope you can make it!

Select Gender Artist Talk

We had a wonderful time last Saturday during our Artist Panel Discussion. We had a full house of people who came to listen to the artists Sarah Sudhoff, J. Aiden Simon, Diane Russo, and curator Elle Perez discuss the Select Gender Show. Some great questions were asked by our moderator Nima Etemadi and we are confident that this exhibition has furthered the discussion on photography and gender identity. Sarah Sudhoff discussed the origins of her "Sorority Rush" series, which explores femininity and the idea of being a part of something within a gender specific role. J. Aiden Simon talked about his transgender transformation and how he represented that through his self-portrait photography. Diane discussed her photographs as a lesbian utopia, where her figures are immersed in nature and can be comfortable with their bodies and their sexuality. Over all, the artists did a great job representing the many aspects of gender identity and its exploration through photography, as well as the Select Gender Show. We would like to thank everyone for attending especially Nima Etemadi, Sarah Sudhoff, J. Aiden Simon, Diane Russo, and Elle Perez.
